DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

(25–30 MINUTES)

1.Dawna says that both extremes of focusing too much on the demonic realm and not acknowledging it at all are dangerous. Why is that?

2.What should we be doing instead of focusing on the demonic? (Answer from the video: We should be asking the Holy Spirit, “Holy Spirit, what do you want me to know?”)

3.Sometimes, we might start to feel sorry for ourselves when the enemy is attacking us, and then start to blame God for the attack or for not protecting us, which is exactly what the enemy would like us to do. Have you ever done that?

4.What are some solutions to win the battle over fear? (Answers from the video: Find Jesus in the room, tell fear to go, remember your position with Christ seated in the heavenly realm, don’t let fear or nightmares be bigger than they are.)

5.According to Ephesians 6 we are in a war, but what do we learn in Ephesians 1 and 2 that should comfort us? (Answers from the video: Ephesians 1:20-21 says that Jesus is seated above the demonic realm and Ephesians 2:4-6 says that Christ raised us up and seated us in heavenly places when we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior.)

6.What are some common lies we believe about the enemy? (Answers from the video: The demonic is bigger and more powerful than God or the demonic isn’t real.)

7.What are some common lies we believe about ourselves that disempower us? (Answers from the video: I’m worthless, I’m too frail, I’m powerless against the enemy.)

8.What are some common lies we believe about others? (Answers from the video: They are just mean, they don’t care about me.)

9.What are some common lies we believe about God? (Answers from the video: God isn’t concerned about me, He doesn’t care about what I think or feel, He doesn’t protect me.)

Goal: We want to expose any lies we are believing about ourselves, others, or God and replace those with the truth so that the enemy does not have a place to hook us.

ACTIVATION

Identifying Lies and Replacing Them With Truth

We want to take some more time to let the Lord bring any lies we are believing to the surface. Let’s say these prayers out loud together. (If everyone has a study guide, the group can read the italicized prayers out loud together as you prompt them. Otherwise, you can read the prayers and have the group repeat them out loud after you.)

Ask, “Holy Spirit, is there a lie that I am believing about me?” (Pause for three seconds.)

Ask, “What is the lie?” (Pause for ten seconds.)

Ask, “Holy Spirit, where did I learn this lie?” (Pause for ten seconds.)

If it was from a person or institution, forgive them. You can pray this prayer out loud quietly or silently. “I choose to forgive [insert person or institution’s name] for teaching me the lie that [insert lie]. I forgive them for [what they did or didn’t do] and making me feel [insert how you felt]. As I forsake this lie I release [person or institution’s name] and myself from judgment.
